Senior Engineer II, Proxy

Overview

Senior Engineer II on the team that owns the ingress proxy service, the primary path into the Menlo Browser Security Platform, helping extend its controls to cover AI agent traffic.

What you'll do

• Own features from design to production and help shape how the system evolves.
• Work with the team and across teams to understand customer needs, refine requirements, implement, review, and deliver changes.
• Take responsibility for the full lifecycle of the services you build.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production systems.
• Working knowledge of HTTP and TLS.
• Solid hands-on experience building and maintaining production systems in Rust or Go, with a preference for languages that offer strong safety guarantees in critical applications.
• Demonstrated ability to optimize for latency and throughput in networked applications, using profiling tools and efficient concurrency models.
• Strong background in implementing secure systems, with a proactive approach to threat modeling, vulnerability mitigation, and ensuring data integrity in distributed environments.
• Experience building and operating async services that handle high concurrency in production, including understanding of backpressure, cancellation, and non-blocking I/O failure modes.
• Experience uplifting legacy systems while they stay in production, moving traffic over safely and in stages, refactoring into more robust architectures, and evaluating trade-offs in language choices.
• History of employing comprehensive testing strategies, including fuzzing, property-based testing, and integration tests.
• Ability to articulate and defend architectural decisions in team settings and share best practices for secure software development.
• Proficiency in leveraging LLMs thoughtfully and selectively to boost productivity, while critically assessing outputs for correctness, maintainability, and fit with the system's architecture.

Nice to have

• Experience in Rust or Go strongly preferred.
• Preference for languages that offer strong safety guarantees in critical applications.
