Senior Engineering Manager, Postgres

Overview

Engineering Manager role leading the Managed Postgres team that builds and operates ClickHouse Cloud’s managed PostgreSQL service.

What you'll do

• Lead, coach, and grow a team through expectations, feedback, and performance management.
• Own outcomes across provisioning, fleet management, failover, recovery, upgrades, observability, performance, and security.
• Translate customer and business needs into a multi-quarter roadmap with incremental milestones.
• Guide architecture and help senior engineers make explicit, sound tradeoffs.
• Raise operational quality across SLOs, on-call, incidents, maintenance, and automation.
• Work with customers to turn recurring pain into product improvements.
• Align dependencies, surface risks early, and keep execution predictable across a distributed organization.

What you'll need

• 8+ years in software engineering.
• 3+ years managing engineers in infrastructure, databases, or developer platforms.
• Experience building and operating a customer-facing stateful service with availability, durability, security, and performance requirements.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or managed relational databases (e.g., replication, WAL, HA, recovery, upgrades, observability, performance diagnosis).
• Technical credibility to engage in architecture and incidents without owning daily implementation.
• A track record hiring, coaching, developing, and retaining engineers, including senior ICs.
• Strong execution judgment across ambiguity, parallel workstreams, risk, and long-term system health.
