Senior Manager, Engineering (Container Product Engineering)

Overview

Lead the Container Product Engineering team building Chainguard Containers, including hardened images, registry services, build systems, and adoption tooling. Own people, roadmap partnership, technical quality, and delivery for a senior engineering team.

What you'll do

• Lead and manage a team of about fifteen engineers.
• Organize engineers into small sub-teams with clear project ownership.
• Coach, develop, hire, and manage the performance of senior engineers.
• Partner with Product and Technical Program Management on requirements and delivery.
• Set technical direction by reviewing designs, pull requests, and key decisions.
• Guide adoption of agentic coding tools with safety and quality guardrails.
• Plan headcount, report status, and collaborate across engineering and customer-facing teams.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years managing engineering teams building customer-facing products.
• Experience leading teams of ten or more, including Staff and Principal engineers.
• Experience shipping features to paying customers in a hyper-growth company.
• Experience hiring, coaching, promoting, and retaining strong engineers.
• Technical fluency with containers, registries, OCI, Kubernetes, Go, and GCP or AWS.
• Daily use of agentic coding tools and experience leading team adoption of them.

Nice to have

• Linux distribution or packaging experience.
• Experience leading a distributed, remote-first team across North America and Europe.

Details

• Remote role; North America or the United Kingdom preferred.
• Base salary: $229,000–$258,000 USD yearly.
• Director-track position reporting to the VP of Engineering for Containers, Libraries, and Repositories.
