Senior Payments Engineer — Acquiring & Payment Processing

Overview

Senior Payments Engineer to own and scale Sezzle’s acquiring and payment-processing backend systems.

What you'll do

• Design and build backend services in Golang that integrate with payment processors, gateways, and card networks.
• Own money-movement flows end to end: authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, reconciliation, and chargeback/dispute handling.
• Build idempotent, fault-tolerant, auditable transaction processing in distributed architectures (e.g., transactional outbox patterns and queues).
• Operate within PCI DSS scope, including tokenization and secure handling of payment data.
• Instrument and monitor payment health (authorization/decline rates, processor performance, latency, settlement accuracy).
• Mentor engineers and occasionally lead small projects to delivery.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of experience for the senior development role.
• 7+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience with meaningful time in payments/fintech/money-movement systems.
• Demonstrated hands-on use of Claude (or equivalent LLM tools) to enhance productivity, research, and communication.
• Hands-on experience integrating with payment processors/gateways/acquiring systems and knowledge of payments fundamentals (authorization vs settlement, tokenization, idempotency, reconciliation, chargebacks/disputes).
• Experience with distributed, cloud-based architectures using patterns like transactional outboxes or queuing tools (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ).
• Strong Go (preferred) or comparable experience in Python building and serving REST APIs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
