Overview
Serve as a Senior Principal Engineer and technical thought leader within an Applied Research & Technology team, shaping and maturing technologies across Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS), aviation weather, data, algorithms, sensing, connectivity and intelligent systems for future aerospace products and airspace operations.
What you'll do
- Provide senior technical leadership for research and technology development across Communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Aviation Weather domains.
- Identify emerging operational challenges and technology opportunities in aviation weather awareness and decision support, weather data acquisition and dissemination, hazardous-weather detection or prediction, weather-informed trajectory and flight optimization, resilient and alternative navigation, next-generation surveillance, air-ground and aircraft connectivity, and CNS integration for autonomous aircraft and airspace operations.
- Translate customer, aircraft, airspace and operational problems into research questions and technology programs.
- Evaluate AI/ML, sensor fusion, edge computing, advanced signal processing, distributed sensing, satellite technologies, connected aircraft, advanced data analytics and intelligent decision-support systems for aerospace CNS and weather-related challenges.
- Architect and develop proofs of concept, analytical models, simulations, algorithms and technology demonstrators.
- Provide technical leadership involving weather-data quality, uncertainty, integrity, spatial and temporal characteristics, fusion and operational interpretation.
- Evaluate technology performance, limitations, failure modes and applicability within safety-critical aerospace environments.
- Partner with product and engineering organizations to transition research outcomes toward technology maturation, new product development and product enhancement.
- Develop technology roadmaps, research proposals and investment recommendations.
- Establish collaborations with universities, research institutions, startups, government organizations and technology partners.
- Generate and protect intellectual property through patents, technical publications, invention disclosures and internal technology assets.
- Represent the organization in technical forums and contribute to thought leadership in CNS and aviation weather technologies.
- Mentor researchers and engineers and help develop technical talent in aerospace CNS and weather-related disciplines.
What you'll need
- Master's or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Communication Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Avionics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Typically, 15+ years of significant industry or research experience in one or more Communication, Navigation and Surveillance domains, with demonstrated depth in aerospace applications.
- Strong experience or specialization involving aviation weather, atmospheric/weather data, airborne weather systems, weather information services, meteorological data processing, or weather-enabled aviation applications.
- Sound foundational understanding of aircraft and avionics systems.
- Sound foundational understanding of CNS principles and architectures.
- Sound foundational understanding of signal processing, estimation or sensor systems.
- Sound foundational understanding of system-level engineering and technology integration.
- Demonstrated ability to independently formulate complex technical problems and convert them into research hypotheses, architectures, algorithms, experiments and demonstrators.
- Experience leading technically complex or exploratory programs involving multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams.
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to make engineering decisions when dealing with uncertainty, incomplete information and emerging technologies.
- Excellent technical communication skills, with the ability to influence senior engineering leaders, researchers, customers and business stakeholders.
- Genuine curiosity about developments across aerospace, atmospheric science, sensing, AI, communications and computing.
- Ability to challenge existing approaches while remaining grounded in first principles, aerospace physics, operational realities and safety considerations.

- Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
- Hybrid role, working regularly both onsite and offsite; the onsite time ratio will be determined in partnership with the leader.
