Overview
Build, run and improve the FinOps tooling behind cloud and AI cost decisions, applying SRE principles (measurement, observability, automation and accountability) to cost and unit economics.
What you'll do
- Build, maintain and improve FinOps tooling, including cost data pipelines, telemetry jobs, dashboards and reports across all Sumo Logic deployments.
- Implement and evolve unit-economics and cost-allocation reporting so cloud and AI spend maps accurately to the teams and products that drive it.
- Support and improve the cost regression program and tooling, detecting and investigating cost increases and helping teams resolve them.
- Support cross-team cost-saving initiatives, partnering with engineering teams to identify, implement and measure savings, and contribute to the cost optimization roadmap.
- Support commitment tracking (CSP, RI, EDP) with accurate coverage and utilization data.
- Run FinOps tooling and cost data pipelines like production services, with monitoring, alerting, data-quality checks and runbooks.
- Build actionable cost alerting and budget thresholds, modeled on SRE error budgets and burn-rate alerting.
- Automate manual cost reporting and analysis work.
- Design and implement new FinOps capabilities, from technical design through rollout.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance or related field.
- Comfortable with cost and unit-economics concepts (allocation, amortization, cost per unit), with the ability to turn complex data into actionable insights.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Track record of taking ownership and influencing results, working across internal and external organizations, including engineering, finance and marketing.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- 3+ years of professional experience in data or software engineering roles.
- 1+ years of experience with cloud financial management or FinOps framework.
- Demonstrated ability to build and operate data pipelines with complex sources.
- Operational expertise in high-scale, reliable 24/7, multi-tenant global SaaS.
