Senior Software Engineer, Backend/Fullstack (Coinbase Advisor - Agentic Trading)

Overview

Senior Software Engineer, Backend/Fullstack on the Coinbase Advisor team within the Consumer & Business group, primarily backend work on Coinbase Advisor, the RIA-licensed agentic trading system inside the Coinbase app.

What you'll do

• Own backend services powering Coinbase Advisor and Strategies, from technical design through launch and ongoing operation
• Build integrations with Coinbase's trading APIs so agent recommendations and user-configured strategies translate into correct, auditable execution
• Develop our agentic harness, including tool calling, orchestration, persistent state, and recovery from failed or partially completed actions
• Shape agent behavior through prompt engineering, evals, and conversation analysis, partnering with our registered investment adviser on changes to financial advice
• Improve service reliability, latency, observability, and execution safety, including retry behavior and safeguards against duplicate actions
• Partner with frontend engineering, product, design, trading infrastructure, and legal/compliance to ship customer-facing capabilities within regulatory guardrails

What you'll need

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Deep backend expertise and a track record of shipping and operating production services
• Strong experience with API design, distributed systems, data modeling, testing, and debugging production failures
• Proficiency in Go or demonstrated ability to learn it quickly
• Experience building production LLM or agentic systems, including tool calling, orchestration, or evaluation
• Proven ability to take ambiguous projects from zero to production with minimal oversight and sound product and technical judgment
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality

Details

• Location: Remote, USA
• Remote-first, but not remote-only: expect to get together quarterly for in-person working sessions called "surges"
• Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $186,065 - $218,900 USD
• Total compensation may include equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k))
