Senior Software Engineer | C/C++, OS, Embedded systems, Networking | 8-12 years

Overview

Senior Software Engineer on the Cisco IOS XR PI India team, developing and supporting NOS infrastructure components for large service providers and hyperscalers, covering router security, observability and application hosting frameworks.

What you'll do

• Participate in every stage of the SDLC, from requirements collection with product managers through development, testing, integration, deployment and support.
• Develop features and integrate them into customer environments, interacting with product management, testing and customer teams to translate requirements into working solutions.
• Act as single point of contact (SPOC) for a particular area of a component when assigned.
• Lead projects end-to-end through delegation, review and delivery, and lead medium features from technical design through completion.
• Write functional clean code and unit tests, and fix complicated errors, raise risks and escalate issues where vital.
• Perform detailed code reviews to identify immediate and larger-scope problems, and test and review code to optimize scale, velocity and reliability.
• Contribute to threat modeling of features.
• Supervise the production environment, serve as a point of contact for on-call issues, and lead postmortems and root cause analysis.
• Identify and recommend improvements to the software development lifecycle and agile engineering standards.
• Share knowledge across teams and mentor peers and more junior team members through code reviews, documentation and technical guidance.
• Coordinate across teams to estimate timelines and deliver against specifications, providing progress updates and remediation plans to cross-functional partners.
• Develop expertise in networking, security and OS protocols, and issue triage, support, monitoring and resolution.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of experience.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/EE/EC or technical equivalent.
• Commanding knowledge and hands-on experience in C/C++.
• Proven understanding of GenAI capabilities and AI-powered software development.
• Sound knowledge of operating system concepts, computer networking, multithreaded programming and system programming on UNIX-based systems.

Nice to have

• Exposure to network security.
• Exposure to GoLang/Python.
• Exposure to L2/L3 protocols and optical networking.
