Senior Software Engineer - Fullstack

Overview

Senior Full Stack Engineer on the Sales Technology team, which builds and runs the Salesforce platform and tools used by PayPal's global sales organization.

What you'll do

• Design and develop scalable, secure, and maintainable web applications.
• Build robust backend services, APIs, and integrations using Java/J2EE, Node.js, or Python.
• Develop responsive and reusable front-end components using TypeScript, React.js, and/or Next.js.
• Deliver complete solutions across the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations.
• Make sound technical decisions based on internal engineering standards and industry best practices.
• Solve complex technical challenges and contribute to continuous improvement of applications and development practices.
• Build RESTful APIs, microservices, and integrations with internal and external systems.
• Implement robust business logic using appropriate frameworks and design patterns.
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Integrate third-party APIs and external services.
• Optimize backend services for performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
• Contribute to automated testing, code reviews, troubleshooting, and production support.
• Design and implement scalable, responsive user interfaces using TypeScript, React.js, and/or Next.js.
• Develop reusable front-end components and integrate them with backend APIs.
• Optimize front-end code for performance, accessibility, browser compatibility, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers, QA Engineers, DevOps teams, and other technology partners.
• Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and technical discussions.
• Work effectively with distributed teams and stakeholders across the organization.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Author high-level technical and solution design diagrams.
• Use AI-assisted development tools, MCPs, and AI applications where appropriate to improve engineering productivity.
• Guide junior engineers and advise immediate management on project-level issues.
• Operate with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on internal conventions and industry best practices.

What you'll need

• 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong professional experience in at least one backend technology: Java/J2EE, Node.js, or Python.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing scalable, responsive user interfaces using TypeScript, React.js, and/or Next.js.
• Experience building RESTful APIs, microservices, and enterprise applications.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of software design principles, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and Agile development practices.
• Understanding of application security, performance, scalability, and observability.
• Ability to understand unfamiliar frameworks and technologies and apply them effectively.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and deliver solutions with limited day-to-day supervision.

Nice to have

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with Spring Boot, OpenAPI/Swagger, Redis, TestNG, MCPs, or AI application development.
• Experience building AI agents and deploying and operating them in production cloud environments.

• Hybrid work model: 3 days in the office and 2 days at your choice of PayPal office or home workspace.
