Overview
Join the Agile Team delivering technology for Elsevier's Submissions unit under Academic & Governance. As a Senior Software Engineer I, you will create solutions supporting global researchers as they submit work for publication and help evolve the platform for the scientific community.
What you'll do
- Design, develop and deploy applications in a cloud-hosted distributed system to build the next-generation product.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify requirements and gather feedback in a fast-moving environment.
- Provide input into architectural decisions to ensure stability and performance.
- Identify and implement enhancements to continually improve the delivery process.
- Partner with cross-functional Agile and DevOps implementation teams.
- Collaborate with team members to create innovative solutions.
- Support and mentor team members to share knowledge and up-skill team members.
- Discuss and hone approaches for the team to improve working practices.
What you'll need
- Some proficiency in most of these technologies: Java, Spring / Spring Boot, a JavaScript / TypeScript tool such as React or Angular, and SQL, with a willingness to learn the others.
- Some experience with build tools, Git and continuous integration, including GitHub Actions / Jenkins.
- Experience with AI coding tools such as Copilot, Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity.
- Some experience with alerting, monitoring and logging tools such as NewRelic and Coralogix.
- Experience with a modern IDE such as IntelliJ / VSCode and proficiency in using refactoring tools.
- Some experience with test-driven development and mocking libraries such as Jest and Mockito.
- Familiarity with collaborative documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Real-world experience with Agile practices and execution, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Some familiarity with how to design and develop for cloud environments, including Docker, Kubernetes and AWS.
- Experience or willingness to learn AI-based solutions.
- Eagerness to learn and grow skills and experience.
- Awareness of industry best practices and standards.
Nice to have
- Experience of Agentic Software Development (Spec-Driven Development).
