Senior Software Engineer in Test

Overview

Senior Software Engineer in Test on Okta's Performance Load Testing team, focused on non-functional load testing, performance analysis and optimization of Auth0 platform systems.

What you'll do

• Drive non-functional load testing and identify critical optimization areas.
• Conduct in-depth analysis to understand what is broken and why, and how the simulation can be improved.
• Support specific teams with performance load coverage, load optimization and testing.
• Collaborate with engineering teams across the organization to implement platform-level efficiency solutions.
• Partner with other senior load testing engineers and mentor more junior engineers.

What you'll need

• Experience with a programming language such as Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript or Golang.
• A tester's mindset, with the ability to understand code, databases and data structures.
• Experience using databases such as MongoDB or SQL to store configuration or user data, with an understanding of tradeoffs between persistence and performance.
• High-level understanding of Kubernetes (K8s) and microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with public cloud environments, AWS and Azure.
• Experience using or implementing observability tooling such as Datadog, New Relic, OpenTracing, OpenTelemetry or similar request tracing tooling.
• Load testing tool experience with JMeter, Apache Bench, Artillery, etc.
• Experience leveraging Linux and containers in production.
• 5+ years of deep testing experience working with advanced load generation and analysis systems and tools.
• Understanding of agentic AI tools such as Claude, Gemini or CoPilot, including implementing agents, skills, workflows and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines, Git hooks and review processes.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with indexes and query planners.
• The ability to understand complex join queries and model datasets that leverage them.
• A passion for digging into code, understanding system behavior and proactively identifying areas for optimization.
