Senior Software Engineer - Market Data

Overview

Senior Software Engineer for Alpaca’s Market Data team, responsible for building and scaling systems powering market data services and APIs.

What you'll do

• Influence the overall architecture of Alpaca’s market data systems.
• Design highly scalable, mission-critical systems.
• Implement backend services and lead architecture for scalability and resilience needs.
• Maintain software quality and test coverage.
• Participate in code reviews and troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs.
• Work on streaming and historical endpoints for the public API structure and documentation.

What you'll need

• At least 4 years of experience working on systems at scale.
• Experience with compiled imperative languages (e.g., Go, C, C++, Rust).
• SQL or relational database skills.
• Familiarity with TCP/IP and UDP networking.
• Proficiency with Linux/BSD and shell scripting.
• Proven track record architecting and leading medium-scale projects involving multiple teams.
• Experience with Kubernetes or other workload orchestration systems.
• Experience with major cloud platforms (primarily GCP).

Nice to have

• Experience with Market Data.
• Knowledge of microservice architectures.
• Knowledge of clean code principles.
• Experience with low-latency applications.
• Experience with observability, tracing, or continuous profiling.

Details

• Location: Remote - EMEA.
• On-call may be required to assist engineering projects on time-sensitive needs.
