Senior Software Engineer - Semantic Data Lake

Overview

Senior Software Engineer on WEX’s Semantic Data Team, building and maintaining the control plane for semantic layers and AI-native data platforms.

What you'll do

• Design and implement the control plane infrastructure to orchestrate the data lifecycle.
• Build observability frameworks and automated quality gates to improve platform reliability.
• Develop self-service portals and “golden templates” for domain teams to manage trusted data products.
• Automate governance policies including end-to-end data lineage, RBAC, and PII protection.
• Build AI-ready data architecture, including context and RAG-based systems.
• Implement classification logic, KPIs, scoring algorithms, and business rules with traceability.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to map business concepts to the development framework.

What you'll need

• 4–8 years of experience in data engineering or software engineering focused on data transformation, modeling, or analytics platforms.
• Strong proficiency in SQL.
• Experience with at least one general-purpose language such as Python or Scala.
• Demonstrated AI-native engineering experience using tools like Claude, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
• Hands-on experience with LLM-driven architectures, including RAG systems and agentic workflows.
• Expertise building orchestration systems using Airflow and quality-first pipelines using frameworks like Great Expectations.
• Fluency with Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD automation for self-healing infrastructure.
