Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Growth Platform Engineering

Overview

Lead the development of AI-powered solutions for Airbnb’s growth platform, from architecture and experimentation through production. Mentor engineers and build globally scalable machine learning systems for personalized marketing and product experiences.

What you'll do

• Develop and improve machine learning models and pipelines for product, business, and operational use cases.
• Build and operate batch and real-time ML/AI systems at scale.
• Design AI capabilities for content generation, marketing decisioning, and opportunity discovery.
• Partner with product managers, operations, and data scientists to prioritize ML requirements.
• Guide engineers in applying ML/AI to their solutions.
• Mentor ML/AI engineers and support ML/AI initiatives for non-ML/AI engineers.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of industry experience in applied ML/AI.
• A relevant MS or PhD.
• Strong programming and data engineering skills in Scala, Python, Java, C++, or equivalent.
• Deep knowledge of ML/AI practices, algorithms, and relevant application domains.
• Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Airflow, Kafka, or equivalents.
• Expertise designing large-scale software architectures and high-volume data pipelines.

Nice to have

• Experience automating processes with agentic AI solutions and frameworks.
• Experience taking AI products from incubation to production at scale using agile practices.
• Experience building testing frameworks for agent behavior and continuous improvement.

Details

• Remote-eligible in the United States, with occasional office or offsite attendance.
• Annual pay range: $244,000–$305,000 USD.
