Senior Staff Software Engineer, Trust

Overview

Lead the technical vision and development of Airbnb’s Trust Platform as a senior, hands-on individual contributor. The role focuses on scalable systems for fraud, safety, and trust decisioning.

What you'll do

• Define the long-term vision and architecture for the Trust Platform.
• Build and improve platform components, performance tooling, and developer tooling.
• Use LLM-powered agents to support code generation and iteration.
• Partner with technical, product, operations, data science, and Trust teams.
• Drive capabilities that address evolving fraud threats and deliver measurable impact.
• Lead and mentor engineers across teams.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of backend and platform engineering experience.
• Experience designing, building, and operating mission-critical distributed systems at scale.
• BS, MS, or Ph.D. in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience guiding multi-year technical roadmaps across multiple sub-teams.
• Deep experience with observability, SLOs, incident response, and resilience patterns.
• Hands-on experience with modern languages such as Kotlin, Java, or Scala.
• Exceptional communication skills across technical and cross-functional audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience building developer experience and tooling.
• Experience in the Trust and Risk domain.
• Experience with AI-assisted development workflows.

Details

• Remote eligible in the United States.
• Occasional office or offsite attendance may be required.
• Annual base pay range: USD 248,000–310,000.
