Overview
As a Senior Systems Support Engineer, ensure the operational efficiency, stability and availability of complex application systems while contributing to incident management, DevOps and delivery of solutions for clients.
What you'll do
- Use incident management processes and tools, application monitoring metrics and tooling to generate reports and take corrective actions.
- Understand complex application systems and debug business-impacting issues.
- Follow standards and best practices to improve operational efficiency, system stability and availability.
- Use continuous delivery practices to evolve, support and deliver high-quality software and value to end customers as early as possible.
- Use logging techniques at various levels for alerting, monitoring and identifying the root cause of incidents.
- Use DevOps tools and practices to deploy and run software.
- Mentor less experienced peers through technical knowledge and leadership skills.
- Apply the latest technology thinking from the Technology Radar to solve client problems.
- Ensure bug fixes and enhancements to the existing codebase are high-quality and well-tested.
- Advocate for and implement cloud best practices for resource optimization, monitoring and alerting.
- Advocate for and implement security best practices.
- Guide and mentor junior-level consultants.
- Participate in a rotation- and need-based 24x7 available team.
What you'll need
- Experience working with the Node and Java programming languages.
- An understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Powershell.
- A high-level understanding of architectures such as monolithic, N-tier, layered, microservices and serverless.
- Strong debugging and triaging skills to troubleshoot code effectively.
- Experience working with relational databases such as MS SQL, MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Experience working with containerization tools such as Docker.
- Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Azure pipelines.
- Experience working with relational or non-relational databases.
- An understanding of application monitoring tools such as DataDog, Prometheus or Grafana, the different metrics that go with them, and the ability to generate reports and take corrective actions.
- Comfort with Agile methods, such as Scrum and/or Kanban.
- Ability to influence others and advocate for technical excellence while being open to change when needed.
- Good communication and articulation skills.
- Resilience in ambiguous situations and the ability to approach challenges from multiple perspectives.
- Willingness to be part of a rotation- and need-based 24x7 available team.
