Software Development Engineer II

Overview

Expedia Global Payments (EGP) is hiring a Software Development Engineer II to design and build backend payment solutions and evolve core payment services.

What you'll do

• Design and build end-to-end backend solutions for scalable, resilient, performant payments.
• Own and evolve payment services and workflows, including payment session lifecycle and method orchestration.
• Build backend APIs and service interfaces using Kotlin/Java with clean contracts and backward compatibility.
• Develop and support GraphQL, gRPC, and REST integrations for payment experiences across brands.
• Take production ownership including monitoring, alerting, on-call participation, incident response, and root cause resolution.
• Improve reliability and deployment safety via CI/CD, rollback strategies, feature flags, and test automation.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, frontend engineers, partner teams, and platform teams to deliver payment capabilities.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of software development experience with backend engineering expertise.
• Hands-on experience in Java and/or Kotlin and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Experience building and supporting web services and APIs in high-transaction, highly available production environments.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, multithreaded programming, and system-level design.
• Strong experience with REST, GraphQL, and/or gRPC API design and integration patterns.
• Experience with reliability engineering including monitoring, alerting, incident management, and root cause analysis.
• Degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience.
