Software Engineer

Overview

Join Barclays as a Migration Engineer (BCP – Red Hat OpenShift), responsible for planning, building and executing application and platform migrations to OpenShift. The role focuses on business continuity, high availability, disaster recovery and operational readiness while ensuring migrated workloads meet RTO/RPO, resiliency, compliance and performance targets.

What you'll do

• Design, develop and improve software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools.
• Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Ensure code is scalable, maintainable and optimized for performance.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Participate in code reviews and promote code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and contribute to technology communities.
• Apply secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.
• Build and maintain systems that collect, store, process and analyze data.
• Collaborate with data scientists and other stakeholders to build and deploy machine learning models and support data-driven decision-making.
• Plan, build and execute application and platform migrations to OpenShift.
• Bridge app teams, platform/SRE, network, security and DR/BCP stakeholders.
• Ensure migrated workloads meet RTO/RPO, resiliency, compliance and performance targets.
• Perform prescribed activities in a timely manner and to a high standard while driving continuous improvement.
• Partner with other functions and business areas, advise and influence decision-making, and act as a contact point for stakeholders outside the immediate function.
• Take ownership for managing risk, strengthening controls, embedding risk-mitigation procedures and escalating policy or procedure breaches appropriately.
• Resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of acquired technical experience.
• Guide and persuade team members and communicate complex or sensitive information.

What you'll need

• Experience configuring, using or maintaining Kubernetes, including OpenShift, EKS or AKS.
• Experience developing and coding software using Python or Golang.
• Experience with Docker, containers and cloud-native utilities and software.
• In-depth technical knowledge and experience in the assigned area of expertise.
• A thorough understanding of the underlying principles and concepts within the area of expertise.
• Understanding of how the sub-function integrates with the function, including knowledge of the organization's products, services and processes within the function.
• Understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organization sub-function.
• Ability to make evaluative judgements based on analysis of factual information, paying attention to detail.
