Software Engineer 2

Overview

Full-stack Software Engineer role building React frontends and Java/Spring Boot or Node.js/TypeScript backend services, with an emphasis on AI-assisted development workflows and secure, cloud-ready delivery at eBay.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and maintain full-stack applications, combining responsive, accessible React interfaces with backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Build scalable backend services using Java/Spring Boot and Node.js/TypeScript, integrating SQL and NoSQL databases with high availability and fault tolerance.
• Optimize query performance and data modeling across relational (SQL) and document/key-value (NoSQL) stores.
• Use AI coding agents to plan and implement frontend and backend features, navigate repositories, refactor code, generate and run tests, and debug issues; review and validate changes for correctness, quality, and security.
• Implement secure coding practices leveraging SAST and DAST tools; partner with security to remediate findings.
• Build reusable UI components and backend integrations using shared libraries for authentication, configuration, logging, caching, and data access; collaborate on CI/CD, containerization, and runtime operations.
• Contribute to cloud-ready architecture; deploy and monitor frontend applications and backend services on cloud platforms such as Azure.
• Ensure code quality and collaboration using GitHub (PRs, code reviews, branching strategies).
• Troubleshoot frontend, API, and database issues in production, perform root cause analysis, and improve performance and reliability across the application.
• Own features from requirements and UI/API design through implementation, automated testing, and release; collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams in an Agile environment.

What you'll need

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field, or relevant experience considered.
• At least 5 years of software development experience, including hands-on delivery across frontend and backend.
• Strong proficiency in React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Backend development experience with Java/Spring Boot or Node.js; willingness to work across both backend stacks.
• Hands-on experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design, indexing, performance tuning, and transactions.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and frontend-to-backend integration, including API contracts, validation, authentication, authorization, and error handling.
• Hands-on experience with AI agentic coding workflows: providing requirements and repository context, guiding multi-step implementation, using development tools and test feedback, and reviewing agent-generated changes.
• Ability to validate results while protecting sensitive data and respecting security, privacy, and licensing constraints.
• Knowledge of SAST and DAST for secure coding practices.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with source control systems, preferably GitHub.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.
• Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented environment.
• Capability to manage complex requirements and adhere to deliverable timelines.
• Experience or knowledge in DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, containerization, infrastructure as code) is a valuable asset.

Nice to have

• Proficiency with SQL (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra), including data modeling and migration strategies; familiarity with Redis caching.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration.
• Familiarity with observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing) and performance profiling.
• Knowledge of API gateways, service mesh, or message queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ); experience with micro-frontends, shared component libraries, and design systems.
• Experience creating reusable instructions and workflows for AI coding agents, including test generation, static analysis, documentation, and safe refactoring; familiarity with MCP tools and schema validation.
• Understanding of security best practices (OAuth2/OpenID Connect, secrets management, TLS).
• Experience with infrastructure concepts: networking, load balancing, autoscaling, and cost optimization.
• Exposure to IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) and pipeline automation (GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
• Background in frontend and backend test automation (unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing) and blue/green or canary deployments.
• Familiarity with AI governance practices, including prompt hygiene, data redaction, and validation against organizational coding standards.
