Overview
Structured onboarding entry-level Software Engineer I role on the Martech Intelligence Pod, focused on maintaining and improving customer-facing websites across frontend and backend, with dedicated time to explore AI tools and LLM APIs.
What you'll do
- Fix bugs and implement small features in React/TypeScript applications, such as layout issues, component state problems and simple forms.
- Help fix bugs and implement small features in C# or Java backend services, including API endpoints, database queries and business logic.
- Help maintain and support jll.com (AEM) and WordPress installations.
- Write unit and integration tests for code you write.
- Participate in code review, both receiving feedback and reviewing peers' code with guidance.
- Deploy code to production with a more experienced engineer guiding the first few times, and participate in on-call rotation for customer-facing applications.
- Observe and help with integration work connecting external systems.
- Dedicate time to learning and experimenting with AI tools, LLM APIs, prompt engineering and agent systems, and document your experiments and learnings.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent bootcamp/self-taught experience with a portfolio demonstrating competency.
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, sufficient for a remote and largely asynchronous work environment.
- 0-2 years of professional software engineering experience, or a recent graduate with solid foundational knowledge.
- Hands-on experience writing code in C# or Java through academic projects, bootcamp or personal projects.
- Some experience with React and TypeScript, or eagerness to learn them quickly.
- Basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Fundamentals of object-oriented programming: classes, objects, inheritance and interfaces.
- Ability to debug in backend (logs, IDE debugger) and frontend (browser developer tools, console logs) environments.
- Experience receiving code review and iterating on feedback.
- Basics of relational databases and simple SQL queries (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE).
- Working knowledge of Git, including version control, branching and merging.
- Systematic debugging: reading error messages, adding logging, tracing code and forming hypotheses.
- Interest in and curiosity about AI tools (LLMs, generative AI, agents), with some experimentation such as ChatGPT or Claude.
- Openness to exploring AI-centric solutions and willingness to experiment with new approaches.
- Ability to explain learning in writing, documenting decisions, asking for help in PRs and sharing discoveries.
- Reliability: finishing what you start, communicating when blocked and asking for help before getting stuck for too long.
Nice to have
- Academic or bootcamp projects demonstrating full-stack fundamentals.
- Experience with Git, GitHub or similar version control in a team setting.
- Familiarity with frontend testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library) or backend testing frameworks.
- Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) beyond basic SQL.
- Exposure to React state management (Context API, Redux, Zustand, etc.).
- Exposure to CSS frameworks or CSS-in-JS libraries (Tailwind, styled-components, etc.).
- Exposure to backend frameworks or libraries (ASP.NET, Spring, etc.).
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) or containerization (Docker).
- Interest in marketing technology, content management systems or enterprise software.
- Experimentation with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, etc.) or interest in learning about LLMs.
- Personal projects or experiments using AI APIs or tools.
- Understanding of or curiosity about agent systems, prompt engineering or generative AI.
- Open source contributions or a GitHub profile showing projects.
