Software Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)

Overview

Software Engineer Intern for a 12-week remote Summer 2027 internship program. Interns will write code and build products used by millions of learners and teachers.

What you'll do

• Write code and build products used by millions of learners and teachers.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to support coding, debugging, and testing.
• Understand, review, and validate AI-generated code with guidance from an engineering mentor.
• Learn and use technologies that best solve the problem at hand.

What you'll need

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in computer science or a related field.
• An expected graduation date in 2028 or 2029 (rising Junior or Senior).
• At least one previous software internship experience.
• Ability to start in May/2027 or June/2027 and have 10–12 weeks of availability for the internship.
• Ability to work/live within the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.
• Ability to learn and use AI-assisted development tools to support coding, debugging, and testing.
• Ability to take ownership of your work by understanding, reviewing, and validating AI-generated code with guidance from an engineering mentor.
• Motivation by the Khan Academy mission “to provide a free world-class education for anyone, anywhere”.
• Proven cross-cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of others, and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging throughout the organization.

• Strong communication, thoughtfulness, and desire to give and receive regular feedback.
• Empathy for learners around the world.
• Motivation to learn new things and share what you learn with the world.
• Experience in any and all technologies is welcome; experience in any particular language or tool is not required.

• 12-week Summer 2027 internship program.
• Remote role for individuals who can work/live within the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.
• Ability to start in May/2027 or June/2027.
• 10–12 weeks of availability is required.
• Technologies currently used include Go, JavaScript (React / React Native, Redux, Flow), Google Cloud Run, and GraphQL.
