Overview
Build and maintain payments risk engineering systems and real-time risk services to detect, mitigate, and resolve fraud and malicious activity across Airbnb’s payments platform.
What you'll do
- Design and build scalable, robust infrastructure for payments risk detection and resolution.
- Build and maintain a long-term, service-oriented technology stack with well-defined APIs.
- Work with data scientists and product managers to develop features and respond to fraud and risk issues.
- Develop and iterate risk detection, mitigation, and resolution strategies as scenarios evolve.
- Integrate with third-party vendors, payments networks, and processors to support in-house risk systems.
- Continuously monitor and improve alerting, quality, and observability of risk systems.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to advance engineering processes and technical foundation.
What you'll need
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience as a backend software engineer in Payments/Fintech.
- Proficiency in at least one major programming language (preferably Java, Kotlin, or Python).
- Code quality practices including automated testing and engineering best practices.
- Exposure to architectural patterns for large, high-scale web applications and efficient algorithms.
- Ability to deliver products end-to-end, including planning, implementation, and A/B testing.
- Collaboration experience with cross-functional teams including product, data science, design, and operations.
- Communication skills, attention to detail, and capability to make data-driven decisions.
- A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience.
Nice to have
- Experience in fraud/spam detection/mitigation in the payments domain.
- Experience with React or equivalent JavaScript libraries.
- Familiarity with experimentation and machine learning techniques.

- US - Remote Eligible.
- May include occasional work at an Airbnb office or offsites as agreed with the manager.
