Overview
Senior systems architecture and design role within PCS Hardware Platforms, providing shared systems-design leadership for coordinated Common OS and Common UI platform releases.
What you'll do
- Own subsystem requirement definitions derived from system requirements, user needs, intended use, and platform strategy, and ensure flow-down to design outputs, component requirements, interfaces, and verification evidence.
- Provide shared systems-design leadership for coordinated Common OS and Common UI releases, including joint planning, dependency management, integration milestones, readiness reviews, and release decisions.
- Lead system decomposition, interface definition, architecture-to-requirement traceability, critical-to-quality attributes, non-functional requirements, and documented technical trade-offs.
- Balance safety, security, privacy, usability, performance, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, cost, reuse, and lifecycle sustainability.
- Own the subsystem Design History File strategy and ensure completeness, consistency, traceability, and audit readiness of engineering evidence.
- Define subsystem verification strategies and ensure bidirectional traceability among requirements, risks, verification methods, results, anomalies, and release decisions.
- Ensure subsystem and component Technical Design Review strategies align with system plans and the needs of Common OS and Common UI.
- Lead product and subsystem risk profiling based on intended use, safety, privacy, and cybersecurity; drive FMEA, FTA, risk-benefit analysis, and risk-control traceability.
- Define and monitor platform-health metrics covering quality, reliability, cybersecurity, defect trends, performance, technical debt, obsolescence, and adoption.
- Review product-to-platform and Common OS-to-Common UI interface requirements; maintain clear interface ownership, compatibility expectations, and supported version combinations.
- Drive integrated validation with product teams, including interface, compatibility, performance, upgrade, failure-recovery, cybersecurity, and regression considerations.
- Establish integrated Common OS and Common UI release-readiness reviews covering dependencies, risks, verification evidence, deviations, known limitations, and product-consumption readiness.
- Coordinate defect triage and technical decisions for issues crossing operating system, UI framework, middleware, application, hardware, or product boundaries.
- Conceptualize and drive proofs of concept for new platform capabilities and influence Common OS, Common UI, process, and engineering-tool roadmaps.
- Mentor engineers and emerging system designers in systems engineering, design controls, risk management, technical reviews, and evidence-based decision making.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
- Typically 10+ years of engineering experience, including substantial experience in systems architecture and design, embedded software, platform engineering, or medical-device development.
- Demonstrated experience translating system and product needs into subsystem requirements, interfaces, design outputs, verification strategies, and traceable release evidence.
- Experience with regulated product development, design controls, risk management, quality systems, and cross-functional technical reviews.
- Technical depth in embedded Linux architecture and development, middleware or application architecture, cybersecurity, reusable platform technologies, and Qt/QML application development.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C or C++, with scripting experience using Python and/or shell.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives across multiple teams, products, sites, or business stakeholders through influence.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience developing and sustaining reusable platforms consumed by multiple medical-device products.
- Experience coordinating releases across interdependent operating-system and user-interface platform areas.
- Experience with Yocto Project or Buildroot, Linux BSPs, bootloaders, device drivers, NXP or TI application processors, and hands-on Qt/QML development for embedded user interfaces.
- Working knowledge of INCOSE-aligned systems-engineering practices, requirements modelling, interface management, CTQs, FMEA, FTA, and risk-benefit analysis.
- Experience with Agile development, CI/CD, DevOps, automated verification, configuration management, SBOM practices, lifecycle vulnerability management, and defect management.
- Experience across concept, new product introduction, sustaining engineering, installed-base support, obsolescence, and end-of-life phases.
- Ability to communicate complex technical decisions clearly to engineering teams, quality and regulatory partners, product stakeholders, and senior leadership.
