Staff Engineer - Cloud Backend Engineering

Overview

Staff Backend Engineer focused on cloud infrastructure, responsible for reliability, scalability, availability and efficiency of cloud platform services at 10X scale.

What you'll do

• Dive deep into business problems, customer pain points and current platform limitations, then work with engineering teams and leaders to design and architect new systems and services on cloud infrastructure.
• Provide system architecture artifacts and accountability for cloud infrastructure choices, including machine types, network designs and deployment automation.
• Provide a roadmap and vision for scalable and robust growth of cloud infrastructure and platform services, enabling 99.999% availability.
• Be 100% accountable for the reliable, scalable and optimized cloud architecture, design and platform services.
• Solve complex technical problems in public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP) and private cloud environments and improve operational excellence.
• Analyze complex distributed production deployments and recommend ways to optimize performance and automate processes, including managing continuous integration servers and using monitoring and testing tools.
• Identify opportunities for disruptive improvements in cloud infrastructure usage, operations and services through systematic automation.
• Provide strategic partnership and improvements on network usage, role management, CDN, domains and cloud infrastructure security.
• Exert technical influence over multiple teams by sharing deep knowledge and experience.
• Self-service code development and end-to-end cloud deployment automation for application stacks.
• Collaborate with customers, stakeholders and lead engineers on key mission-critical projects.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of total experience.
• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent, with 12+ years of strong hands-on experience in cloud platform engineering.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience in system engineering, Cloud DevOps and Cloud SRE.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience leading system design and architecture leveraging AWS or Azure services.
• 10+ years of demonstrable hands-on experience building and operating infrastructure as code (IaC).
• 10+ years of hands-on experience building high-performance, highly available and scalable distributed systems in the cloud.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience building and managing high-performance, highly available and scalable hybrid cloud environments.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience as a cloud infrastructure engineering team leader.
• Strong experience with cloud DevOps tools and coding, including CI/CD, IaC, Terraform, Python, CloudFormation, Ansible, GitHub, CircleCI, Jenkins and infrastructure automation.
• Strong working experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Linux and cloud service integrations.
• Comfortable with many flavors of Linux.
• Strong hands-on experience automating app stack deployments through IaC using Terraform, Python or Go.
• Expert knowledge of performance (sub-millisecond latencies), scalability, availability (99.999% uptime) and enterprise architecture best practices.
• Strong technical analytical and design capability to understand common and shared platforms, web and services APIs with underlying data.
• Ability to solve problems through creative thinking and partnerships with other teams.
• Ability to attain challenging targets through goal-setting and personal drive.
• Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities and attention to detail.
• Excellent cross-group collaboration and outstanding verbal and written communication.
