Staff Engineer - Java

Overview

Staff Engineer – Java to design and develop scalable, high-performance backend solutions for EXA Data Services (S3DS/NSDS).

What you'll do

• Design and develop scalable components for the S3 Data Service platform.
• Develop maintainable, performant backend services using Java and Spring.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical design decisions.
• Collaborate with product management to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Work with QA, DevOps, and L3 support to ensure stability and reliability.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across application, infrastructure, and distributed system layers.

What you'll need

• 10–14 years of software development experience with strong Java expertise.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Framework (Core, Boot, Data).
• Experience building REST APIs and microservices-based architectures.
• Strong understanding of system design, architecture patterns, and distributed systems.
• Experience with data storage technologies such as Cassandra, Hadoop, or Elasticsearch.
• Knowledge of Linux systems, networking, and infrastructure-level debugging.
• Experience with Maven or similar build systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python scripting.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Prior exposure to distributed file systems or high availability storage solutions.
• Understanding of security, data consistency models, and fault-tolerant architectures.
