Overview
Staff Product Manager to define Deepgram's line of AI applications that put its voice AI directly in the hands of knowledge workers and consumers, and to build it into a profitable business. Reports to the VP of Self-Serve.
What you'll do
- Own the strategy for Deepgram's AI applications: decide which products the line consists of, who they are for, and why they win; write it down; defend it to executives; and keep the direction stable while the team builds.
- Own the roadmap and its decisions (what ships, in what order, with which tradeoffs), from the applications available today to ones not yet built.
- Build the business: acquisition, activation, retention, and monetization, with the metrics, targets, and a weekly read of whether the product is working and the business is becoming profitable.
- Represent the product with partners and customers, and own what Deepgram commits to deliver and when.
- Run the team's operating rhythm (hypothesis, shipped change, honest measurement, next bet), with real usage by real people as the bar, starting with Deepgram's own employees as the first users.
- Partner daily with research on the models, with engineering and design on the build, and with marketing on the launch; bring the user's voice into every decision.
- Prototype: mockups, wireframes, and working prototypes are how you communicate; using the product every day is how you know it.
What you'll need
- Excellent product management judgment: own product and roadmap, set direction, decide under uncertainty, ship outcomes, and lead cross-functional work without authority; able to show results.
- Required: a shipped consumer or prosumer application that people chose and paid for, with ownership of its funnel and business as well as its features.
- Zero-to-one product definition: taken a product from idea to a first version real users adopted (strategy, positioning, first release), and able to show what happened next.
- Required: deep AI fluency proven by shipped work; personally built and shipped AI into end-user applications, with strong, specific opinions about where models help, where they fail, and how to verify their output.
- Technical depth: reasons with engineering about models, latency, privacy, and platform tradeoffs; reads code; prototypes.
- Design sense: builds simple, effective interfaces and communicates ideas through mockups and prototypes, grounded in user research and testing.
- The judgment to distrust a number before building on it: asks whether a metric is real or an artifact of how it was measured, as a reflex.
- Clear communication with executives: leads with the decision, keeps method in reserve, and stays steady under pushback without caving or digging in.
