Staff Software Engineer - Data Platform

Overview

Staff Software Engineer for Zendesk’s Data Platform team in Pune, focusing on designing and delivering enterprise data infrastructure for analytics and AI/ML integration.

What you'll do

• Lead end-to-end data platform architecture across ingestion, transformation, storage, and governance.
• Define and evolve standardized data contracts, schemas, documentation, and tooling.
• Lead build-vs-buy evaluations and pilot new technologies to improve reliability, speed, or cost.
• Deliver secure, highly-available data services and pipelines for large-scale workloads.
• Own, operate, and scale the core orchestration platform (Astronomer / Apache Airflow).
• Set standards for data modeling, testing, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and code quality.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of total software/data engineering background.
• 3+ years dedicated to Platform Engineering or Data Infrastructure.
• 3+ years leading complex, cross-team architecture/infrastructure initiatives at a Staff level.
• Hands-on experience designing, provisioning, and managing cloud environments on public clouds (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform (or CloudFormation).
• Experience designing and automating CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions (or Jenkins).
• Intermediate-level experience with at least one language: Python, Go, Java, or Scala; plus SQL.
