Staff Software Engineer, DevEx

Overview

Staff Software Engineer responsible for setting technical direction for Samsara's Developer Experience platform, including CI/CD, build systems, and AI coding agents.

What you'll do

• Shape the technical direction of the developer platform.
• Design and build AI agents for coding, code review, testing, releases, and incident response.
• Scale developer tooling while maintaining reliability.
• Standardize tools and practices across engineering teams.
• Raise technical standards through reviews, design discussions, and mentorship.
• Partner with engineering leadership on technical priorities and tradeoffs.
• Represent Samsara through talks and open-source work when appropriate.

What you'll need

• 8+ years building software.
• At least 2 years in an architect or technical leadership role.
• 4+ years working on large-scale distributed systems.
• 4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams.
• Strong programming and software design fundamentals.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building developer platforms, internal tooling, or CI/CD for a large engineering organization.
• Experience shipping AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or custom agents.
• Strong skills in Go, Python, TypeScript, or a similar language.
• Experience measurably improving engineering productivity.
• Ability to align teams in ambiguous environments without formal authority.

Details

• Remote role open to candidates based in the United States.
• Full-time annual base salary: USD 162,400–290,000.
