Staff Software Engineer (L4)

Overview

Lead reliability engineering for significant parts of a production estate, improving availability, performance, resiliency, and recovery across multiple teams. This hands-on role involves writing production code, coordinating complex changes, and leading responses to degraded production systems.

What you'll do

• Own the reliability posture, monitoring, and alerting for production services.
• Define and operate against SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Prevent incidents by identifying risks, reducing repair items, and improving recovery.
• Lead on-call responses, debugging, troubleshooting, and post-mortem follow-up.
• Write, review, test, and deploy code that improves service reliability.
• Orchestrate cross-system changes, migrations, upgrades, and architectural improvements.
• Drive cross-team projects, milestones, delivery timelines, and stakeholder updates.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of related engineering experience.
• Substantial experience in reliability, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
• Accountability for production systems, including pager and incident ownership.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and production coding experience.
• Experience with SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident command, and observability.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems in a cloud environment.
• Experience driving multi-team changes and mentoring engineers.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, and GitOps-style delivery.
• Experience with multi-region architecture or failure-domain design.
• Background in chaos engineering, game days, or proactive resilience validation.

Details

• Remote role based in Ireland.
• Occasional travel may be required for project or team meetings.
