Overview
Graphcore is seeking a Staff System Software Engineer in Test to design, develop, automate and report integration and system tests spanning firmware and device drivers. The role focuses on low-level system software in server-class systems and involves hands-on technical leadership across hardware, software and QA teams.
What you'll do
- Provide technical leadership for test features and own multiple features.
- Own test infrastructure.
- Shape test strategy.
- Design and develop tests for complex multi-component areas, achieving close to 100% coverage.
- Understand overall functionality and design and implement test plans with minimum guidance.
- Triage bugs and debug issues found in tests to narrow them down to root cause.
- Review and improve code, test design and implementation processes.
- Perform code reviews for teammates and developers.
- Improve ways of working by ensuring the team follows standard practices.
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams to understand use cases and create and implement test plans across the stack.
- Develop integration tests for other components on the board.
- Develop acceptance tests for stakeholders.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to experts and non-experts.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the domain.
- Contribute to the validation framework, CI/CD, automation and packaging.
- Lead or contribute to design decisions.
- Drive root-cause corrective action (RCCA).
- Work with developers to reduce mean time between failures for externally reported bugs.
- Add missing test coverage.
- Mentor junior members.
- Act as a technical expert on the domain.
- Ensure best practices are followed.
- Raise quality and coding standards and best practices by setting an example.
- Ensure and improve code quality and best practices.
- Contribute to improving team culture.
What you'll need
- Strong experience in low-level system testing and integration across complex software and hardware layers.
- Deep understanding of RTOS, complex boot logic, Linux and device drivers.
- Test development capability using Python and C/C++.
- Experience working with hardware, debuggers, CI/CD pipelines and build or integration tools.
- Ability to debug cross-layer issues and drive root-cause investigations to lasting corrective actions.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to mentor engineers and document complex technical decisions.
