Staff Systems Software Engineer

Overview

Staff Systems Software Engineer to design and implement backend features for Sauce Labs’ error-reporting/backtrace platform and related systems.

What you'll do

• Extend subsystems including work scheduling, HTTP networking, storage, indexing, and data analysis.
• Build performance-sensitive components primarily in Rust and C/C++.
• Improve observability using OpenTelemetry (metrics, tracing, profiling) and evolve Grafana dashboards.
• Collaborate to develop and execute the product roadmap.
• Provide technical leadership by advising on investments, leading solution design, and mentoring junior staff.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.

What you'll need

• 7+ years of development experience in C/C++ and Rust.
• Experience developing specialized data structures, algorithms, and supporting infrastructure for real-world workloads.
• Solid experience with cloud platforms including GCP and AWS.
• Proficiency with live and post-mortem debugging tools.
• Experience with DevOps and CI/infrastructure scaling using Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, and Salt.
• Autonomous, initiative-taking, and ability to act.

• Workplace: hybrid; near-office hires may need to come into the office, and remote hires may need to travel as required.
