Overview
Senior Software Engineer for Roku’s Observability team, working on core observability systems (metrics, logs, traces) and data pipelines/storage for high-throughput performance.
What you'll do
- Extend and integrate open-source observability systems.
- Overhaul core components (storage layers, query paths) to improve scalability at scale.
- Build services to improve performance, usability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Implement pre-aggregation, downsampling, and sampling to reduce load and speed up queries.
- Create developer-facing capabilities for metrics, logs, and traces usage, data quality, and cost management.
- Automate onboarding, dashboards, alerting, and tracing.
- Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to integrate observability into a cloud-native stack.
What you'll need
- 8+ years in software engineering.
- 4+ years of Go/Golang experience.
- Experience with or strong interest in observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, ELK/OpenSearch, Clickhouse).
- Experience with or strong interest in standards (OpenTelemetry, OpenTracing, OpenMetrics).
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and data models.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).

- Hybrid work: teams generally work in the office Monday–Thursday; Fridays are generally flexible for remote work except when specific roles require five days in office (per assigned office location/role).
