Overview
Actuator Gear Design Engineer to lead development of custom gears and gear stages for advanced robotic systems.
What you'll do
- Lead architecture, design, and integration of custom robotic actuator gearing.
- Define actuator requirements and run system-level trade studies across performance and reliability factors.
- Design precision electromechanical assemblies with attention to tolerances, alignment, load paths, sealing, wear, and serviceability.
- Integrate actuators into robotic systems to optimize closed-loop performance with controls and firmware teams.
- Develop and evaluate sensing and encoder integration architectures.
- Build, validate, and iterate actuator prototypes via bring-up, debugging, characterization, and refinement.
- Develop test methods and analyze data to improve design based on limitations and failure modes.
What you'll need
- 5+ years of experience designing gear systems, robotic actuators, or precision mechatronic hardware.
- Strong understanding of motors, transmissions, bearings, encoders, structural design, thermal management, and precision mechanical integration.
- Experience developing transmission elements for high-performance dynamic systems.
- Familiarity with actuator sensing architectures, including encoder integration and calibration.
- Proficiency with CAD and PLM tools such as NX and Teamcenter (or equivalent).
- Experience developing validation plans, reliability testing, and failure analysis workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Details
- Based in San Francisco, CA.
- Requires in-person presence 4 days a week.
