Application Engineer - III

Overview

Provides advanced-level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases under general direction. Leads backend optimization, data integration, documentation, and secure, scalable architecture aligned with enterprise standards.

What you'll do

• Provide senior level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases.
• Integrate third party products.
• Translate technical specifications into code for complex new or enhancement projects for internal clients.
• Write programs, develop code, test artifacts, and produce reports.
• Employ software development techniques to ensure tests are implemented in a way that support automation.
• Lead backend system optimization efforts, ensuring high performance, scalability, and responsiveness under varying workloads.
• Spearhead the integration of multiple data sources, APIs, and services, streamlining data flow and improving overall system efficiency.
• Oversee the creation and upkeep of detailed backend documentation, helping cross-functional teams understand architecture and logic.
• Advocate and implement best practices for security, data protection, and backend resilience, aligning with enterprise-grade standards.
• Collaborate with front-end teams to design backend interfaces that support seamless and intuitive user experiences.
• Elevate code into the development, test, and production environments on schedule.
• Provide follow up production support.
• Submit change control requests and documents.
• Train and mentor staff with less experience.
• Resolve elevated issues.
• Participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout the life cycle to identify issues.
• Explain technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients.
• Perform systems analysis activities.
• Understand client business functions and technology needs, and Vanguard's technologies, tools, and applications, including those that interface with business area and systems.
• Interface with cross functional team members and communicate systems issues at the appropriate technical level for each audience.
• Understand and comply with Information Technology and Information Security policies and procedures and verify that deliverables meet requirements.
• Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll need

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software development, system integration, database design, and back-end architecture.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in relevant fields such as Computer Science, or a master’s degree/Diploma in Computer Science.
• Appian Core Expertise: SAIL UI, process models, records, integrations.
• Integration & API Skills: REST APIs, web services, enterprise system integration.
• Platform health checks, monitoring & performance tuning.
• Appian Best practices, Platform health checks, monitoring & performance tuning, System reliability (SRE mindset, logging, alerting).
• Engineering Excellence: CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/Bamboo), DevOps practices.
• Cloud & Data (AWS + SQL): AWS fundamentals (S3, serverless, cloud patterns), SQL, data modelling (CDTs, records, reporting).
• Automation & AI Enablement: Workflow automation and process optimization, Exposure to AI/ML use cases (document processing, GenAI integration).
• Appian plugin development & extensibility.
