Associate, Specialist, Application Developer, Consumer Banking Group Technology

Overview

Build and maintain Java/Spring-based backend applications and microservices for Group Technology in the Consumer Banking Group, with a focus on AI-assisted engineering productivity.

What you'll do

• Design, develop and maintain Java/Spring-based applications, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures.
• Build and operate microservices, including service decomposition, resilience patterns, scalability and observability.
• Apply object-oriented analysis and design, common design patterns, SOLID principles and clean architecture practices.
• Optimize relational databases, including SQL tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies and performance troubleshooting.
• Write automated tests using test-driven development and frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, Spring Test, Karate and Cucumber (BDD).
• Use SDLC and DevOps tools including Git/Bitbucket, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus and JIRA.
• Use Generative AI-powered development tools such as Gemini CLI, Claude Code and Claude CLI for code generation and refactoring, unit test creation, API development and documentation, code review assistance, root cause analysis and performance optimization recommendations.
• Validate AI-generated code, conduct security and compliance reviews, and maintain code quality, maintainability and governance standards.

What you'll need

• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, computational complexity and problem solving.
• Excellent working knowledge of Java (17+), including concurrency and multithreading, the Collections Framework, JVM internals, performance optimization and functional programming concepts.
• Hands-on experience designing, developing and maintaining Java/Spring-based applications.
• Proven experience building and operating microservices architectures.
• Strong understanding of OOAD, design patterns, SOLID principles and clean architecture.
• Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL optimization, query tuning and indexing strategies.
• Experience with TDD and automated testing frameworks, including JUnit, Mockito, Spring Test, Karate and Cucumber (BDD).
• Proficiency with modern SDLC and DevOps tools, including Git/Bitbucket, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus and JIRA.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as ELK.
• Strong automation and scripting capabilities.
• Ability to work effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environments and adapt to evolving business and technology requirements.
• Experience using Generative AI-powered software development tools to improve engineering productivity and code quality, such as Gemini CLI, Claude Code and Claude CLI.
• Understanding of responsible AI-assisted development practices, including validating AI-generated code, security and compliance reviews, prompt engineering for software development, and maintaining code quality and governance standards.
• Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience in software development, with strong backend engineering expertise.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams and stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience in Banking, Payments, FinTech, or high-volume transaction processing systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and cloud-native application development.
• Contributions to engineering productivity initiatives, developer platforms or AI-driven development practices.
