Back-end Engineer

Overview

Back-end Engineer responsible for building and maintaining scalable, reliable backend systems for British Council products. The role includes backend design, development, optimization, security, testing, and integration with frontend applications.

What you'll do

• Design, code, review, test, and document programs or scripts.
• Plan backend development with product managers and stakeholders.
• Implement scalable and reliable backend systems.
• Deliver backend engineering projects against milestones and quality standards.
• Develop monitoring and logging mechanisms for security and compliance.
• Gather requirements and develop data-driven backend optimization solutions.

What you'll need

• Experience implementing scalable and high-performance backend systems.
• Exposure to .NET, C#, PHP, NodeJS, or Python.
• Exposure to AWS or Azure and microservices architecture.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, data modelling, and query optimization.
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs, caching systems, unit testing, and integration testing.
• Experience with agile development, software patterns, version control, and test-driven or behavior-driven development.
• Hands-on experience with React, .NET, .NET Core, and MSSQL.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and containerization technologies.
• Knowledge of Cypress or Playwright for end-to-end testing.
• Understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, and DevOps practices.
• Understanding of frontend technologies such as React or Angular.
• Exposure to Kafka or Apache Flink.
• Understanding of OAuth, JWT, authentication, authorization, and security best practices.
