Backend Engineer

Overview

Build and own Python backend services and APIs that power visa processing for travellers across 127 countries, integrating government portals, payment providers, document pipelines and AI systems.

What you'll do

• Build the core platform by designing and shipping Python services and APIs that power applications, payments, document handling and order tracking across 127 countries.
• Integrate with government portals, embassies, payment gateways and partners, handling retries, rate limits, flaky endpoints and changing rules gracefully.
• Scale for volume by designing data models, queues and async workflows that hold up through peak travel seasons and sudden spikes in demand.
• Put AI into production by working with the AI team to turn LLM-powered agents and document intelligence pipelines into reliable, observable backend services.
• Own systems end to end, from design to production, including deployment, monitoring, alerting and incident follow-ups, with a high bar for testing and security.

What you'll need

• 3-5 years of backend engineering experience building and running production systems at meaningful scale.
• Exceptionally strong in Python, with production services built on frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask.
• Solid fundamentals in databases and distributed systems, including PostgreSQL, Redis, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS or Celery), caching and async processing.
• Comfortable with cloud infrastructure and modern tooling such as AWS or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD and observability stacks.

Nice to have

• Exposure to browser automation (Playwright, Selenium).
• Experience integrating LLM APIs.
• Experience building in fintech, travel or other high-compliance domains.
