Data Engineer

Overview

As a Data Engineer, you will join the Data & Analytics Office within the IT Services department and transform DEME’s data into high-quality big data sets and reports. You will organize data, develop modern data solutions and products on the cloud data platform, and enable business decisions with data insights.

What you'll do

• Create, maintain, and support data pipelines with information from vessels, projects, campaigns, third-party data services, and other sources.
• Organize data and develop and maintain data models.
• Design modern data solutions and products on the cloud data platform.
• Work closely with the business to define and fine-tune requirements.
• Support data scientists and report developers across the organization.
• Enable data scientists and report developers to find required data and information.
• Work with various kinds of data on multiple projects.
• Work in an agile environment with a result-driven and hands-on mindset.
• Iterate quickly and try out new things.

What you'll need

• Hands-on experience with the Microsoft Azure data platform, including Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Microsoft SQL Server, and Azure Analysis Services (AAS), is mandatory.
• Experience with SQL or other data-oriented development languages, including Python and Spark.
• Proven experience developing data models and database structures.
• Proven experience with ER modelling for documenting and designing data structures.
• Proven experience developing data pipelines and orchestrations.
• Knowledge of fundamental data modeling concepts such as entities, relationships, normalization, and denormalization.
• A master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science.
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work as a team player.

Nice to have

• Experience with a wide variety of data tools and data such as geospatial, time series, structured, and unstructured data.
• Exposure to AI-assisted coding, code generation, and developer productivity tools is desirable.
• Experience with reporting tools is a plus, including Power BI.
• A healthy appetite and open mind for new technologies is a plus.
