Overview
Datacenter Engineer (L2) provides local second-line onsite support for complex datacenter and IT-room topics for a customer.
What you'll do
- Handle escalated or complex local datacenter incidents and identify technical causes across infrastructure components.
- Coordinate local service restoration measures and liaise with Remote Operations, provider teams, customer contacts, facility/security teams, vendors, and architecture teams.
- Perform technical evaluations and on-site analyses for physical infrastructure issues (e.g., hardware faults, recurring faults, temperature/airflow deviations, power/PDU issues).
- Plan, coordinate, and support standard and non-standard changes, including firmware/patch and lifecycle activities for local components.
- Support build-and-operate activities for managed compute/storage/backup and managed network/security (installation, hardware configuration, maintenance, component replacement, hardening, decommissioning, DR support).
- Analyze and quality-assure complex fiber/cabling and structured cabling topics, including measurements (OTDR/BER) where applicable.
What you'll need
- Multi-year experience troubleshooting and providing on-site support in datacenter/network/system/hardware/storage/backup/monitoring services.
- Practical experience with physical datacenter infrastructure (e.g., rack & stack, cabling, labeling, hardware replacement, remote hands, break/fix, vendor escort, cable connectivity, and documentation).
- Knowledge of structured cabling and fiber technology in data-center environments (desired).
- Comfort working with ticketing/ITSM systems such as ServiceNow and structured documentation of steps (checks, analysis, implementation, escalation, solutions).
- Good knowledge of physical datacenter infrastructures including compute hardware, storage, backup infrastructure/tape libraries or backup devices, networking components, security appliances, racks, PDUs, patch panels, transceivers, and physical connectivity.
- Experience in firmware/patch/hardware lifecycle processes and datacenter IT processes including incident, service request, change, and problem management.
