Overview
Designs, develops, builds, and implements new components, products, or technologies, with a focus on gas turbine external systems and mechanical product development.
What you'll do
- Create new component-level designs and resolve issues regarding manufacturing or product operation.
- Ensure design acceptance, manufacturing readiness, and validation.
- Participate in adopting new technologies and process improvements to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
- Support defining engineering procedures to make products or processes more reliable, efficient, and cost-effective.
- Understand functional requirements and translate them into detailed design documents.
- Collaborate with all functional areas to provide design solutions that meet enterprise partner and customer requirements.
- Evaluate gas turbine external systems to prove they meet manufacturing, assembly, durability, and functional requirements.
- Collaborate on cross-functional design teams, present at design reviews, and document designs per the New Product Introduction tollgate process.
- Interpret and define assembly and manufacturing drawings following Geometrical Tolerancing standards.
- Review and approve drawings and Bills of Materials.
What you'll need
- B.E. or B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited engineering college, with 3+ years of product development experience.
- M.E. or M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited engineering college, with 2+ years of product development experience.
- A degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
- Strong first-principle thinking.
- Clarity of thought and good communication skills, with the ability to explain and present ideas.
- Experience with fundamentals of structural design concepts, including stress/strain, beam/shell theory, pressure vessel calculations, and high/low cycle fatigue theories.
- Ability to perform hand-calculation verifications with sound mechanical design fundamentals.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in designing gas turbine external systems, including secondary cooling systems, lube oil systems, bleed air systems, and fuel systems.
- Familiarity with conventional gas turbine components and systems, their functionality, and their manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Basic Creo or NX modeling capabilities, including defeaturing and modifying 3D models.
- Preferred requirements include 10 years of design experience with gas turbine external systems, including secondary cooling systems, lube oil systems, bleed air systems, and fuel systems.
- Preferred expertise in gas turbine external systems manufacturing, assembly processes, and field issue resolution.
- Preferred exposure to gas turbine field serviceability, including tooling and processes, and transportability, including shipping, lifting, tooling, and weight management.
- Preferred knowledge of gas turbine systems operability, including start systems, lube oil systems, and control systems.
- Preferred 5 years of experience in design and FEA structural analysis of components or systems, including stress, deflection, modal, harmonic, elastic-plastic material properties, transients, and contacts.
- Preferred exposure to development engine testing, including defining instrumentation and supporting engine build and testing.
- Preferred “cradle to grave” component ownership of gas turbine components.
- Preferred FMEA, risk assessment, and failure analysis expertise.
