Job description

Overview

Build and support secure, automated, and resilient delivery platforms for the EDP Analytics Portal and associated Enterprise Data Platform services. Spearhead infrastructure and deployment pipeline evolution while driving operational excellence.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for application and platform deployment.
  • Automate build, testing, security scanning, deployment, validation, and rollback processes.
  • Develop operational automation using Python, Shell Scripting, Ansible, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Build, manage, and securely promote Docker and OCI container images across environments.
  • Deploy and support applications on OpenShift, Kubernetes, and AWS platforms.
  • Develop and maintain Helm charts, Kubernetes manifests, and environment configurations.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, health checks, and operational dashboards.
  • Support releases, production incidents, root cause analysis, vulnerability remediation, and service recovery.
  • Manage application configuration, certificates, secrets, service accounts, and access controls securely.
  • Ensure solutions meet Barclays standards for Security, Resilience, Change Management, and Operational Risk.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, product owners, and infrastructure teams to improve platform reliability and delivery.
  • Build and maintain data architectures and pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete, and consistent data.
  • Design and implement data warehouses and data lakes that manage appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to required security measures.
  • Develop processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to build and deploy machine learning models.
  • Perform prescribed activities in a timely manner and to a high standard, consistently driving continuous improvement.
  • Partner with other functions and business areas, advise and influence decision making within the area of expertise, and act as a contact point for stakeholders outside the immediate function.
  • Take responsibility for team operational processing and activities, manage risk and strengthen controls, escalate policy or procedure breaches, and embed new risk-mitigation policies and procedures.
  • Resolve problems through acquired technical experience, guide and persuade team members, and communicate complex or sensitive information.

What you'll need

  • In-depth technical knowledge and experience in the assigned area of expertise.
  • Thorough understanding of the underlying principles and concepts within the area of expertise.
  • Strong experience with Git, GitLab, and GitLab CI/CD pipeline development.
  • Proficiency in Python and Shell Scripting.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with release automation, artifact management, and controlled promotion across environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
  • Experience with Helm, Kubernetes manifests, configuration management, and container registries.
  • Good understanding of Kubernetes networking, storage, RBAC, secrets, certificates, resource management, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience deploying and supporting highly available containerized applications.
  • Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with AWS services and cloud-native deployment models.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Elastic Stack, Prometheus, or Grafana.
  • Good understanding of application performance, capacity management, resilience, backup, and recovery.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex application, infrastructure, network, and platform issues.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, DevSecOps, release management, and production support.
  • Commitment to secure automation, code quality, documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience creating operational runbooks, deployment procedures, and recovery documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in GitLab CI/CD, Python, Shell Scripting, Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
  • Proven experience building and supporting enterprise-scale automation and container platforms.
  • Experience working in regulated environments with strong security, governance, and resilience requirements.
  • Ability to demonstrate risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of SonarQube, Veracode, vulnerability scanning, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience with Amazon EKS, Rancher, or RKE2.
  • Exposure to Databricks, Airflow, data engineering, or analytics platforms.
  • Experience with enterprise container registries and artifact repositories such as Nexus.
  • Knowledge of SRE practices, FinOps, cloud cost Optimisation, and self-service platforms.
