Overview
Director of Engineering Excellence at TechGrove, the Centre of Excellence for Banyan Software in Bangalore, to set the engineering standard for AI Engineering Pods, grow the engineers who staff them, and steer engineering culture across the centre without managing the pods directly.
What you'll do
- Build the engineering culture at TechGrove: rigorous code review, clean and well-tested code, security designed in from the start, and real ownership of what ships.
- Grow engineers through onboarding, pairing, and hands-on coaching to develop senior, AI-fluent engineers in-house.
- Define the engineering standard, including the AI-native development lifecycle, quality gates every change must pass, and practices for reviewing work produced by AI agents.
- Drive adoption of developer tooling, including Banyan Memory Bank and the Claude Code plugin for planning, building, and testing with agents, and feed learnings back to the tool builders.
- Create mechanisms for sharing what is working between teams and across the organization.
- Drive continuing education in India by delivering and improving the Agentic Coding Workshop curriculum at TechGrove.
- Lead the Engineering Excellence program, including use of Span to measure delivery and AI-assisted productivity, defining a small set of signals and a review cadence, and using them to decide where to coach.
- Share practices that prove themselves at TechGrove with HQ and operating company engineering teams, and help develop the Engineering Excellence playbook alongside Technical Operating Partners.
What you'll need
- 10+ years in software engineering, including significant time as a Principal or Staff Engineer, Architect, or senior engineering leader on complex production systems.
- A track record of improving the performance of teams you did not manage, through standards, coaching, and example.
- Real enjoyment in developing engineers through mentoring, onboarding programs, or building a learning culture.
- Daily, hands-on use of AI and a fundamental understanding of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, with a clear point of view on how AI-native teams should build, review, and test software.
- Depth in engineering fundamentals: clean code, Domain-Driven Design, Twelve-Factor principles, meaningful test coverage, DevSecOps, and application security.
- Working fluency across modern stacks (.NET Core, Python, TypeScript, Java, React and Next.js) and cloud-native delivery on AWS and Azure.
- The ability to explain hard ideas simply and hold a room of engineers.
Nice to have
- Experience building or driving adoption of internal developer tools or platforms.
- Experience starting and running an engineering guild or community of practice.
- Experience modernizing large enterprise or B2B applications and/or developing multi-tenant SaaS applications.
- Familiarity with GenAI architecture, including RAG, LLM orchestration, multi-agent systems, MCP, and context engineering.
- Experience leading distributed or offshore engineering teams.
Details
