Engineer II, Software

Overview

Design, build and maintain scalable Java-based applications and backend services, with a strong focus on quality, security, performance and maintainability.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, test and maintain Java-based applications and services.
• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable software solutions.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
• Participate in architecture and design discussions.
• Perform code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support root-cause analysis.
• Write unit, integration and automated tests.
• Improve application performance, security, scalability and maintainability.
• Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps and other engineering teams.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
• Contribute to technical documentation and continuous process improvement.

What you'll need

• Strong experience in Java development.
• Good knowledge of Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns and SOLID principles.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle.
• Experience with JPA, Hibernate or similar ORM frameworks.
• Strong unit and integration testing experience using JUnit, Mockito or equivalent tools.
• Good understanding of the software development life cycle and Agile methodologies.
• Experience with Git, code reviews, debugging and static code analysis.
• Knowledge of application security, authentication and authorization.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Typically 6+ years of relevant software development experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with microservices and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of Spring Security, Spring Cloud or reactive programming.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools.
• Experience with performance tuning and scalability improvements.
• Familiarity with OpenAPI, Swagger or GraphQL.
• Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Experience with frontend frameworks such as Angular, React or Vue.js.
• Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs.
• Knowledge of responsive design, accessibility, usability and web performance best practices.
• Familiarity with UI testing tools such as Cypress, Playwright or Selenium.
• Experience working in regulated or quality-focused environments.
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
