Overview
Engineer III, Software responsible for designing and developing scalable, high-quality Java applications and backend services. The role focuses on software quality, security, performance, scalability, maintainability, technical ownership, and collaboration across engineering and cross-functional teams.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and services.
- Translate business and technical requirements into scalable software solutions.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions.
- Perform code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support root-cause analysis.
- Write unit, integration, and automated tests.
- Improve application performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
- Contribute to technical documentation and continuous process improvement.
- Make sound technical decisions and guide implementation of complex work.
- Drive work from requirements through delivery, support, and improvement.
- Work effectively with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Share knowledge and help others grow technically.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Typically 6+ years of relevant software development experience for Engineer III, depending on internal Band 7 expectations.
- Strong experience in Java development.
- Good knowledge of Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.
- Experience with JPA, Hibernate, or similar ORM frameworks.
- Strong unit and integration testing experience using JUnit, Mockito, or equivalent tools.
- Good understanding of the software development life cycle and Agile methodologies.
- Experience with Git, code reviews, debugging, and static code analysis.
- Knowledge of application security, authentication, and authorization.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
Nice to have
- Experience with microservices and distributed systems.
- Knowledge of Spring Security, Spring Cloud, or reactive programming.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools.
- Experience with performance tuning and scalability improvements.
- Familiarity with OpenAPI, Swagger, or GraphQL.
- Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience with frontend frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.js.

- Experience working in regulated or quality-focused environments.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
