Job description

Overview

Conduct IP analytics for programs related to Power Systems and Power Electronics across Eaton businesses, supporting business, engineering and legal stakeholders.

What you'll do

  • Conduct prior art searches, including landscapes, patentability, Freedom-to-Operate, and patent validity/invalidity assessments, using open and specialized patent and literature databases.
  • Read a huge volume of patents and literature and communicate complex technologies and concepts in an easy-to-understand format to business and stakeholders to drive decisions.
  • Conduct patent landscape and watch analysis.
  • Identify competitor and emerging technology trends.
  • Support development of IP strategy to protect and commercialize key technologies.
  • Quickly understand technologies related to Protection, Conversion and Distribution equipment in Power Systems.
  • Interface with cross-functional Engineering teams across Eaton's business units to gather technical information related to an invention disclosure.
  • Assist legal teams in assessing the patentability of inventions.

What you'll need

  • Master's degree with 1-2 years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience.
  • Educational background in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
  • Experience in Intellectual Property.
  • Effective communication.
  • Collaborative orientation.
  • Learning agility.
  • Drive for results.
  • Problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience in claims mapping, portfolio analysis, whitespace analysis, licensing, drafting, or other types of patent analyses.
