Job description

Overview

Engineer role focused on executing engineering projects and solutions for Eaton's VisoVac switchgear product line, including engineer-to-order (ETO) and value analysis/value engineering (VAVE) projects for network protectors.

What you'll do

  • Execute engineering and development of VisoVac (Switchgear) and its subsystems, including implementation of new features per marketing requirements.
  • Design engineer-to-order (ETO) network protectors for non-standard and complex designs.
  • Take technical ownership of engineer-to-order requirements and ensure product compliance with global design standards such as IEEE, IEC or other applicable compliance standards.
  • Complete system and component sizing, design, simulation and testing activities to meet product requirements.
  • Convert customer requirements into design parameters, design tanks and busbars per requirements, and complete designs (2D drawings and 3D models) in Inventor and Creo.
  • Execute ETO projects and lead activities from customer requirements through complete design.
  • Perform tear-downs, generate ideas, perform system/component sizing, modeling and simulation to meet product design and compliance requirements.
  • Understand the product portfolio and business landscape, and provide cost-out proposals through product tear-downs.
  • Improve engineering process efficiency through digital tools and find opportunities to automate the ETO process and reinforce lean methodology.
  • Bring value to the end customer by modifying existing products through the Change Management process.
  • Find opportunities for continuous improvement and make VAVE proposals to the business.
  • Select engineering techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations.
  • Apply knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards to develop test plans.
  • Use knowledge of electrical performance requirements and physics to provide engineering judgement on product impact from cost, testing and certification perspectives.
  • Create test object requirements, plan assembly, and finalize test parameters and instrumentation.
  • Assess test results and perform root cause analysis of test findings and failures, and take corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support creation of new designs and advanced methodologies that support the organization's Technical Roadmap.
  • Review Supplier Document Requirements Lists based on product requirements, customer specifications or industry standards such as IEC and IEEE.
  • Review design proposals and documentation required to define and control the product roadmap.
  • Participate in customer and internal design reviews as required.
  • Identify and communicate risks as they arise during development and work on appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Participate in multidiscipline concurrent development and corrective action teams.
  • Perform a wide variety of engineering and technical tasks involving application of engineering knowledge and development of solutions to complex problems pertaining to products, materials, manufacturing processes, tests, and unique customer applications.
  • Monitor progress and achievements on projects and provide timely status reports to stakeholders.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3 to 6 years of experience in ETO, VAVE and product design.
  • Experience with electromechanical distribution products, preferably switchgear or large electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience leading programs or projects through all stages of the product development cycle.
  • Proficiency in Inventor and 3D modelling.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and completing complex projects on time.
  • Sound technical knowledge of electromechanical products such as VisoVac and panel design, and of the ETO process.
  • Strong mechanical technical knowledge to understand customer specifications and prepare engineer-to-order designs within targeted timeframes.
  • Understanding of relevant industry standards and how they apply to the product.
  • Team player able to work with global teams in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to generate novel concepts and ideas for improving systems and sub-systems.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the value proposition and quality of engineering deliverables.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed, able to report progress and metrics on a recurring basis.

Nice to have

  • Understanding of tests such as temperature rise, fault current, high voltage, impact, vibration, and mechanical/electrical endurance per standards, and estimating their impact on product performance from a VAVE standpoint.

Details

  • Location: Hadapsar, Pune, Maharashtra, India.
