Engineering Lead

Overview

Engineering Lead (Lead Software Engineer) for a “50:50” hands-on and people leadership role, running an engineering stream responsible for shipping production software and developing engineers.

What you'll do

• Spend about half your time writing, reviewing, and shipping production code.
• Set and maintain technical direction, including architecture decisions, technology choices, and code standards.
• Own the engineering quality bar across code review, testing expectations, CI/CD, observability, and security practices.
• Lead people management for up to eight engineers, including 1:1s, goals, direct feedback, and performance cycles.
• Ensure predictable delivery using sprint ceremonies, planning quality, backlog health, and dependency management.
• Handle incidents well with fast triage, clear communication, thorough post-mortems, and prevention of repeat failure classes.

What you'll need

• Strong commercial software engineering background with experience shipping production systems end-to-end.
• Clean code, automated testing, and CI/CD discipline.
• Ability to review and contribute across backend, frontend, or full-stack.
• Solid SQL and relational database skills, including experience with cloud-hosted databases in production.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and/or event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with containerisation such as Docker and Kubernetes.
