Expert Software Engineer II

Overview

Build Java and Spring Boot microservices and enterprise-scale data capabilities for a consumer-directed healthcare platform. The role combines backend engineering, data-platform development, product collaboration, and end-to-end ownership.

What you'll do

• Design and deploy scalable Java and Spring Boot microservices using REST, asynchronous processing, and event-driven patterns.
• Build resilient Kafka producers and consumers with topic design, schema evolution, replay, ordering, and failure handling.
• Design data-platform capabilities spanning acquisition, ingestion, validation, transformation, storage, serving, and consumption.
• Create SQL schemas, queries, transactions, indexing strategies, and data lifecycle practices.
• Develop automated unit, integration, contract, performance, and regression tests using TDD.
• Deploy and operate services through CI/CD with observability, logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Own features end-to-end and collaborate with product, business, quality, infrastructure, data, security, design, and operations teams.

What you'll need

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience at a software product company.
• Strong Java and Spring Boot experience building production-grade REST APIs, microservices, and integrations.
• Hands-on Apache Kafka and event-driven architecture experience.
• Strong SQL, relational database design, query optimization, transactions, and data modeling skills.
• Experience with enterprise-scale data platforms and modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD, containers, infrastructure as code, and observability.
• Strong TDD, unit-testing, integration-testing, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with cloud-native data services, data lakes or warehouses, stream processing, schema registries, or data-mesh concepts.
• Experience with micro-frontends, healthcare or payment-processing domains, or generative AI for engineering productivity.
