Forward Deployed Software Engineer

Overview

Design, develop and improve software for business, platform and technology capabilities, contributing to Barclays' next-generation identity platform that powers secure authentication and authorization across the digital banking ecosystem. Assistant Vice President level, with a team lead expectation.

What you'll do

• Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools.
• Ensure code is scalable, maintainable and optimized for performance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaborate with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities.
• Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.
• Lead a team performing complex tasks; set objectives and coach employees, appraise performance relative to objectives, and determine reward outcomes.
• Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
• Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies and procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.

What you'll need

• Experience with resilience, corporate communication and relationship-building skills to drive change.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and practices to accelerate development, improve code quality, and enhance productivity.
• 3+ years of software development experience with strong proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, JavaScript or Go, including experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Solid understanding of Identity and Access Management concepts including authentication, authorization, single sign-on, and identity federation.
• Good understanding of cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and containerisation technologies (Docker).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, build automation tools (GitLab CI), and version control systems (Git).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following software engineering best practices.

Nice to have

• Experience working with Ping Identity, or similar IAM platforms and their APIs.
• Experience working with Open Policy Agent (OPA), or similar policy engines and their APIs.
• Experience working with databases and developing extract-transform-load (ETL) solutions.
• Knowledge of authentication protocols (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML) and security best practices for web applications.
• Experience with test-driven development (TDD), automated testing frameworks, and code quality tools.
• Background in Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience working in cross-functional teams.
• Exposure to financial services or regulated industries with understanding of compliance and security requirements.
