Job description

Overview

Build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, ensuring they are reliable, scalable and secure, as an Infrastructure Engineer VP at Barclays.

What you'll do

  • Develop, deliver and maintain high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements, ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability and ease of use.
  • Identify appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation and resourcing requirements.
  • Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address and resolve potential issues, vulnerabilities or outages, using data to drive down mean time to resolution.
  • Develop and implement automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, using software scripting and coding disciplines.
  • Implement secure configurations and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software and data from unauthorised access.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, architects and other engineers to define IT infrastructure requirements, devise solutions and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organisation's technology communities.
  • Contribute to or set strategy, drive requirements and make recommendations for change.
  • Plan resources, budgets and policies; manage and maintain policies and processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches of policies or procedures.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, supporting the control and governance agenda.
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management, on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Lead collaborative, multi-year assignments and guide specialists as a subject matter expert within your discipline.
  • Seek out, build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish key business objectives.

What you'll need

  • Minimum graduation degree (mandatory).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Block Storage technologies (SAN, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, multipathing, zoning) with the ability to troubleshoot performance, connectivity and availability issues end-to-end.
  • Strong hands-on experience with File Storage platforms (NAS protocols such as NFS/SMB, permissions, snapshots, replication, scalability) and proven ability to optimise performance and resilience.
  • Proven capability in Enterprise Backup and Recovery engineering, including backup policy design, retention, restore validation, disaster recovery readiness and operational governance for mission-critical workloads.
  • Solid experience applying SRE principles such as error budgets, SLO/SLI definition, toil reduction, automation-first operations and post-incident learning to drive measurable reliability improvements.
  • Strong observability vision and execution, including defining metrics, logs and traces for storage and backup services, building dashboards, alerting strategies and using telemetry to prevent incidents before they impact customers.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a consistent track record of working across infrastructure, application, cybersecurity and service management teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience automating storage and backup operations using Python/PowerShell, API integrations or infrastructure-as-code approaches.
  • Working knowledge of cloud storage and backup concepts (hybrid architectures, object storage, cloud backup integrations or cloud-native resilience patterns) and how they intersect with enterprise storage.
  • Familiarity with ITIL / service management practices including incident, problem and change management, and operational runbooks, with the ability to improve process maturity without creating bureaucracy.
  • Experience with security and compliance controls for data protection, including encryption, immutability, ransomware recovery practices and least-privilege access patterns for storage systems.
  • Exposure to containerised and virtualised platforms (VMware / Kubernetes storage concepts) with the ability to align storage reliability to modern platform needs.

Details

  • Based out of Pune.
